Albert Henry was, we believe, a coachman on an estate in the Wombwell area. He lived in a semi-detached cottage/house in an area of Wombwell known as Littlefield. When the estate was sold he was able to acquire not only his own house but also the adjoining property, plus another pair of semi-detached houses in the same street and in addition eight terraced houses there. We do not know how he was able to fund these purchases. My uncle tells me that he was a self-taught man, who later worked for a local engineering company as a time-keeper - apparently he had beautiful copper-plate handwriting. He became a Churchwarden and eventually was an inspector of schools in the area. He appears to have been a well-respected member of the community and is mentioned as her noted father in the local newspaper at the time of my grandmother's diamond wedding anniversary. When he died the properties were sold and my grandmother acquired one where her family was brought up.
