Catherine McLETHLANE was born in 1796 at Scotland; Her age in the 1841 census would give a birth year of 1791, but in 1851 and 1857, it equated to 1796. In 1841 she said she was born in Scotland, but in 1851 she was recorded as being born in Kilmington. I believe that the latter was an error - there has never been a family surnamed McLETHLANE in Kilmington, although there is a chance she was a widow when she married Thomas BISHOP. There was no infant named Catherine baptsied in Kilmington within ten years either side of 1796.2

Note*
Other information; Was she born illegitimately? On her marriage record, in the space for father's name, is written Mary Ann MEADE. She appeared in 1881 surnamed CURTIS and in 1871 she was surnamed REX but was boarding with the CURTIS family. I have listed her birthplace primarily as Salisbury b/c this was given first by an adult when she was 6. She later gave Stourton, and then "Not Known".
There is a birth record of an Ada Kate RIX in Sep qtr 1865, but it is Mitford in Norfolk. Maybe that's where she was really born.
