He witnessed the criminal act of Samuel WHITAKER on 5 June 1812; ''Samuel Whitaker, 34, committed by Sir R.C.Hoare, bart., charged on the oaths of Henry Helliar and William Card with having stolen and carried away two couple of chickens, the property of the said Henry Helliar at Stourton. Warrant dated June 15 1812. Found guilty. To be confined in the House of Correction in Devizes for 2 calendar months to hard labour.' There was also a Samuel Whitaker of the parish of Bradford, who was in the county prison on 14 Jul 1801.
